Create assembly from Layout Sketch
Saturday, August 18, 2007
How to create or Build Assembly from Assembly Layout Sketch?

In our assembly, create a regular 2Dsketch. Within that sketch draw your individual 2D representations of your assembly and turn them into individual blocks.

Exit the sketch and right-click on it, select 'create assembly from layout sketch' from the context menu

A part will be created for each block definition in your layout sketch. If you use more than one instance of a block definition in your layout sketch, then solidworks will create another instance of that component in the assembly.

You can then add features to the parts in order to further define them.

The parts will update if the layout sketch is modified or if the block definitions are changed.

When you start a new assembly, instead of adding the first component, select “Create Layout”.
